Natural Dyes Unit at Magan Sanghralaya. Magan sanghralaya is the only museum founded by Mahatma Gandhi in 1938 dedicated to the artisans and rural industries. It is here Dr. Devendra Kumar started the moment of production and sale of Khadi with out dependance on Govt. rebate. His mission to manufacture organic Khadi with out chemical colours was fulfilled by Mukesh Lutade. .Trainined at Gandhi Gram Trust, Tamil Nadu he started the Natura Dyes unit in 2003 in Magan Sanghralaya.
The chemical dyes used by the textile industries are major environment pollutants and also hazardous for the artisans working in these units. MSS developed 200 hues of organic dyes, most of which are made fromunutilized local forest produce like Aam (Mangifera Indica), Palash (Butea Monosperma) Pakpu (Antigonan Leptopus), Behada (Terminalia Bellerica),and Bibba or Bilwa (Semicarpus Anacardium) With the support of Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India, MSS has developed new improved tools and techniques of natural dyeing and effective ways of recycling the effluents of a natural dyeing unit.
As a low cost alternative to block printing, MSS has developed an innovative printing technique by using fresh leaves where by a single leaf can be used for printing at least 200 motifs.
